Quick Tip: Shaping Your Eyebrows

"Brows (in my opinion) are the most important feature of the face!
They can make or break your makeup and give expressions that you might not want.

One of my favorite tools to remove hair quickly and painlessly without causing redness are Japanese Razors. They are so amazing! You can quickly remove hair before your event and be able to apply your makeup

right away. I love that they remove the baby fuzz that tweezers can't, especially for closeups.

*Pro Tip* When using tweezers, try coloring out the hair you want to remove with a white pencil. This makes the shape of your brow stand out and you will see what it will look like before removing any hair.
If redness does occur after tweezing I love to dab on a little witch hazel."

Welcome to

This Week we are featuring the Amazing...
with professional advice on: Fall into Change

"Fall is here and I couldn't be more excited...not only is it my favorite season, but for hair that means change!! Especially hair color, if you're brave enough! As a stylist for 10 years now, I've taken many ladies from blonde to red to brown to back blonde again and know how hard change can be sometimes on the going in side, but on the coming out side how fun it can be too!!

So here's some helpful tips for stepping out of your comfort zone and making those changes!!!

For you dark ladies out there that may need a switch, consider adding a few bright red peices in your dark to give that fall feel. If you need to keep your hair professional for work, ask your stylist to place the brighter pieces where they can be hidden by your part.

For the blondies out there who are brave enough to step out of there box, darken it up! A rich chocolaty brown or an auburn brown with some hints of red is always fun for fall If you still want dimension, ask your stylist to leave out a few lighter peices for around your face. This will give you a brighter feel.

If you're a blonde bombshell and not willing to take your blondes to dark, that's perfectly alright. There are a few ways to feel like you had a change without going dramatically different. For this fall Buttery Blondes are the hit. If you have bright light highlights, platinum blonde hair, or just an all over very light blonde color...consider toning down those blondes with a more slightly butter golden blonde. A toner is a simple process your stylist can do that goes over the blonde you already are wearing!

Whatever your preference, fall is a time of change and whatever color you decide to change to, embrace it! Don't fight it, if you love it everyone else will too!!!

Quick Tip #8: What's in Your Lipstick?

We put lipstick on everyday and rarely think about what we may be consuming with every bite we take throughout the day. But what is really going into our body? The cosmetic industry will not tell you that some of the ingredients used in its products are health hazards. Products from lipsticks are going to be absorbed into your body as you moisten your lips throughout the day, and especially when you eat.

The bottom line is to pay attention to the ingredients on any cosmetic label.
If your lipsticks have these toxic chemicals in them consider finding an alternative:

artificial colors
artificial fragrances
toluene
formaldehyde
acetone
phthalates
parabens
synthetic preservatives
mineral oil
sodium lauryl
sodium sulfate
gluten

Some cosmetic companies that I have found to have the least amount of chemicals are:

* M.A.C Cosmetics
* Bare Faced Mineral Cosmetics Natural Lipstick
* BioElements LycoPlex Lipstick (Papaya)
* Afterglow Cosmetics lipsticks
* Coastal Classic Creations lipsticks
* Cosmic Tree Essentials Lip Care Confections Lipstick
* Elusyion Vegan Mineral Lipstick
* Gourmet Body Treats Lipsticks
* Honeybee Gardens Truly Natural Lipstick
* Inika Mineral Cosmetics Mineral Lipstick
* Raw Natural Beauty, Raw Color Primal Pigments Pure Botanical Lipstick
* Zosimos Botanicals
* CARGO Cosmetics Plant Love Botanical Lipstick
* Gabriel Cosmetics Lipsticks
* Bare Minerals 100% Natural Lipcolor

We all love lipstick!
We just need to do our research before supporting companies who produce harmful products.

Welcome to

This week we are featuring the talented...
Christy McDonie Makeup Artist

With some professional Makeup advice for you:

"A few things that I find that some brides often over look in regards to their makeup for their big day is..
Making sure you drink plenty of water every day, as this will leave your skin looking fresh and hydrated. Also, exfoliating your skin at night a few times a week then using a nice cream or moisturizer afterwards is essential. Exfoliating will slosh off any dead skin cells and help your moisturizer penetrate better.
This will make your skin feell smooth and leave it more radiant...
and will even out the skins imperfections over time.

Doing these few steps will make your skin look flawless and camera ready for your wedding.

Also, one thing that’s often over looked is making sure you (the bride) don’t wear a lot if any gloss during the ceremony…picture this: your wearing a beautiful pink gloss over your lipstick, you lean in to give your new husband your first kiss, you turn to face your friends and family to walk down the isle as the photographer is snapping pictures to capture this wonderful moment and (gasp!) your husband turns to wipe the sticky pink gloss off his lips! Or he just own’s it and walks down the isle with his lips as shiny and pink as yours! lol

So to avoid the whole situation I would just wear a long wearing lipstick and liner during the ceremony and if you must... put that gloss on during the reception. Where he’ll have a napkin nearby."

Quick Tip #5: Last All Day in the Sun Makeup Tips

"Summer means Heat and no one likes runny foundation and smeared mascara, so here are some tips on how to have fun in the sun and still look fresh and clean.

*Pro Tip* Always use primer. Primer on the skin and eyes. After you moisturize and before you apply your foundation put a thin coat of your favorite primer on. This will fill in any fine lines and act as a barrier for moisture and keep your makeup in place. Eyeshadow has a tendency to crease, so choose a silica based eye primer for underneath.

Pick a good SPF Sheer Tint rather than a foundation that is heavy and matte. Less product is better for the heat and for your complexion.

*Pro Tip* Carry blot film or blot powder in your person. Avoiding blotting skin throughout the day with pressed powders. Most powders darken with heat and moisture and look heavy over time.

Trade in your lip sticks for lip conditioner or a non-sticky lip gloss. Moisturizing your lips after being in the sun will keep them soft and youthful.

Choose a bronzer that gives you a natural looking tan. Place it on the areas around your face and neck where the sun would tan you.

Last, use waterproof mascara. Waterproof isn't what it used to be! If you're not ready to make the switch you can apply it to the ends of your lashes over top of your favorite mascara.

Have a beautiful and relaxing summer!"

Beauty Tips 101: Brushes vs Sponges

"Most Makeup Artists will tell you that brushes are the most important tool for applying makeup. I absolutely agree! I can pretty much use any brand of makeup and achieve the look I'm hoping for as long as I use good quality brushes. I like to think of myself as a painter. I wouldn't paint a picture with sponges or my finger. Now there are times when both can come in handy like blending or cleaning up a mistake. Brushes also save you money by wasting less product.

A clean brush is a happy brush! Brush cleanser is good for quick cleans between personal use or clients during an event, but I give my brushes a brush bath after I'm done using them for the day.

*Pro Tip* Use baby shampoo in warm (not hot) water. Swish the brush around and rinse. Make sure you form your brushes and lay them flat on a towel over night. The shampoo will disinfect and condition the bristles. After using them on my clients I add a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the brush bath, especially for the lip brushes.

*Pro Tip* Make sure you don't set your brushes upside down in a container wet. This could cause the glue in the brush handle to separate and your handle will fall off.

Practice makes perfect! If your brushes seem uncomfortable to use, keep trying. Practice holding them at the end of the handle. Not only will this give you more stability but it will help you achieve a clean, blended look."

Beauty Tips 101: Getting Rid of Imperfections

"I have always broken out because of stress. Weddings unfortunately can be stressful, but not to worry! Here are some tips from the pro’s that are sure to cover up even the most unsightly blemish!

  • First, the worst thing you can do is change your skin care products right before your big event. Stick to what your skin knows. Drink lot’s of water and get lot’s of sleep. Well, we all know that doesn’t always happen, so how do we cover it up?
*Pro Tip* Always start with a silicone base primer. This will make a waxy surface and act as a barrier between the blemish and the concealer or foundation.

  • Next you need to pick your coverage. For blemishes I prefer a cake concealer. It can be used on it's own or mixed with your primer. Picking your color can be tricky.

*Pro Tip* Green or olive cool tones cover red. Pink warm tones cover blue.

  • After you have your concealer where you want it, add your foundation and a light pressed powder to set it. Avoid adding powder throughout the day because it will make the blemish cakey.

*Pro Tip* Use blot powder or blot films to remove shine. Also, blush brings the eye away from the blemish and to the cheeks! Blush is your friend!"

Beauty Tip 101: Face looking white in photo's?

"There is nothing worse then looking amazing for an event and then seeing your pictures with a washed out face! I know. I've been there before! So, no more powder foundation for photos Ladies! This includes mineral. Believe it or not it actually has metallic fibers in it that reflect light off of a camera flash.

Ask any Photographer and they will tell you to stay away from powder.

*Pro Tip* If you like the powder look, I recommend a medium coverage liquid foundation with a sheer pressed powder. Loose powders work great, too!"

Beauty Tip 101: How to Create a Smokey Eye

"I love smoky eyes, but sometimes they can look more like a black eye then a sultry eye!

The best way to start is with a crease-free base all over your eye lid to keep your shadow from creasing and stay on all day. I prefer using a fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply any cream textured base to the eyes.

Next choose four colors to make your smokey look go from light to dark.

Blend your second to the darkest color over your lid beginning at your lash line and blend up to your crease.

With a crease brush, blend your second to the lightest color in your crease. This will buff out any of your lid color and give the appearance of an airbrushed look.

*Pro Tip* You can almost always use the same color in your crease if you choose a neutral skin tone color that is a few shades darker then your skin tone.

Use your pencil brush and buff your darkest color into your lash line from the top to bottom lid.

*Pro Tip* You can also take a smokey black pencil and line your inner eye. Then dab black shadow over top of the pencil to keep it from moving. Water resistant pencils work best for the inner eye.

Blend your lightest color on your brow bone and finish the look off with pitch black mascara."
