This Week we are featuring...

We love working with Shannon from Showorks
and we are excited to share this professional advice
with you regarding
How To Dress up your dance floor:

"As a designer, I see clients all the time that spend time and money choosing the perfect coverings for tables, ceiling and walls only to forget about one big focal point in their event space - the dance floor.

Most venues and rental companies own the same perpetrator- the traditional dreary brown wood dance floor. After investing so much time and money into creating an environment uniquely their own, why overlook the large brown “elephant” in the room.

A custom covered dance floor is the perfect solution to transforming the dullest of dance floors into a spectacular space that will have your guests dancing the night away! A high gloss vinyl covering is floated over the existing floor to completely transform it to a unique and visually stunning décor element within the space. And the benefits do not stop there. Striking in its appearance with its high gloss shine and seamless appearance, a custom covered dance floor gives a lot of “bang for the buck” adding a large décor element for a relatively small investment. Brides on a budget get the ‘platinum” look they are searching for without the platinum price tag.

Take your event branding to the next level with the addition of full color logo’s and floor graphics. Not you’re run of the mill customer? Perfect- kick it up a notch with a metallic or mirror dance floor. Available in over 25 colors, there is a custom covered dance floor for every style and budget."

Pro Tip Thursday

Welcome to
Pro Tip Thursday
This Week we are featuring the brilliant...
with professional advice on: LED Lighting

"Lighting can bring your event a defined ambiance! Whether your look is to be “fun and funky” or elegant – lighting your room can create the atmosphere. And the great news is the addition of lighting does not have to be over the top expensive. Now, everyone’s room and vision may vary, so each lighting package will vary. My advice is to have Jamie coordinate with her lighting company to determine what package can be created for your event.

Some things to watch out for: I often find that lighting orders overlap. Sometimes we see the DJ or band production bring lighting that is also ordered through an event décor company or lighting company. In other words… I arrive at an event to find the client has ordered the same lighting effects twice! The other pitfall that we have seen is that two vendors bring lighting that does not compliment each other. At one event we provided an LED illuminated dance floor to be utilized for a presentation at a corporate event. The production company had multiple moving spot lights. Both the illuminated floor and spots were awesome as stand alone elements. But the spots washed out any color from the floor. That is why it is so important to have just one coordinator doing just that – coordinating. It will save your budget (no double orders) and assist in making sure all the pieces fit together.

LED lighting has developed greatly - which means great effects at great prices for the consumer. IM Events has a new line of battery operated wireless LED lights. There are no cables or cords so they may be placed anywhere. It’s a clean look and relatively little labor. With a remote control the lights can change colors during the night. We recently did a wedding where the room and the tables (illuminated tables!) were all white – a very elegant feel. With each course of the meal the room changed color- soft colors. Then, when the party started…the room became colorful, fun and funky. The options are endless! Talk to Jamie about your vision and she can make it happen." - Glenn

This Week we are featuring the Phenomenal Event Designer...
Amanda Allen of MMD Events
with professional Lighting advice...

Wedding Décor: The Power of Lighting

"You can’t have a discussion about wedding décor these days without considering the power of lighting. It can create space, depth, unique shadowing, and of course light. It emphasizes the hard work one has put into designing their space, and gives an overall completeness to the style of your room. Giving it that “platinum wedding” feel a basic ballroom can be beautifully lit for around $500 - $1000.

Another wonderful trait of lighting is that it will de-emphasize boring or unpleasant aspects of a room. For example, in a picture below you’ll see how some of our brilliant up-lights, ceiling patterns, and color washing on the dance floor completely transformed a wedding reception venue with putrid yellow walls and a horrific carpet into a completely dreamy venue.

When shopping for your lighting package, be sure to choose a professional. Lately, I've witnessed more and more DJ's providing lighting as an add-on to their jams. Now, I don't want to knock any DJ's, but lighting is a décor element. A lighting professional understands the aesthetic value of lighting and how it shapes the design of your wedding. A DJ or other non-professional may offer a bargain, but a lighting professional adds the value of understanding décor and the style you are trying to achieve.

Thoughtful design is the key here. It does not have to mean expensive. A bargain is only worth it if at the end of the day you got exactly what you wanted. Take my advice, make lighting a part of your budget and hire a professional lighting designer. Then you’ll be one step closer to having exactly what you want for your dream wedding."
